A Glass Retreat That Melds Seamlessly With The Rockies
2025 Best of Year Winner for Residential Outdoor Space
This house in the Rockies by Design Workshop has a symbiotic relationship with the mountainscape into which it’s nestled, each conceived as an extension of the other. The glass-walled dwelling’s design, intended to maximize outdoor living, draws from the woodland palette—literally, in the case of salvaged materials used to compose various features throughout the property: bark trails, log steps, a hot-tub surround constructed of reclaimed stone. The Aspen home treads lightly on the land with its modular construction and, in turn, the land treads lightly on it: Note the green roof conceived to make the boxy volumes look as though they’re dissolving into the terraced setting, planted with yarrow gardens, a fern glade, and native grasses to restore biodiversity.
