Bold Colors Enliven a Toronto Law Office by In Studio

The iconic First Canadian Place skyscraper in Toronto’s downtown financial district is known for its corporate tenants, but that doesn’t mean its interiors look traditional. Inspired by the various jewel tones in the logo for a law firm in the building, Gowling WLG, local interior design firm In Studio encouraged the partners to go bold and “jump into color,” recounts Heidi Painchaud, a project designer.

Each of the five floors in the law firm features unique upholstery accent shades that stand out against the white walls and furnishings, further emphasized by strategically implemented lighting. Project lead Jaymie Cooper explains that geometric lighting fixtures are placed above reflective tables to give a distorted illusion of more space. Additionally, perforated Arktura ceiling panels add a dynamism to the lighting of various spaces throughout. Says Painchaud, “everything has a statement, so we were very selective with the design details.”
