Call for Projects: 2019 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition

Has tile been a prominent feature in your recent projects? Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Agency proudly announce another inspiring rendition of their annual tile celebration, the 2019 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition. Now in its 26th year, the competition recognizes the outstanding work of North American architects, designers, and students whose recent projects incorporate the innovative technical and aesthetic qualities of Italian ceramic and porcelain tile.

Each year, an international jury of experts reviews dozens of submissions from all over the continent and selects winners in four categories: residential, institutional, commercial, and student. This year, North American designers are welcome to submit any domestic or international project that was completed between January 2014 and January 2019 and features a significant amount of Italian ceramic or porcelain tile produced by Ceramics of Italy member companies. There is no fee to enter and multiple entries are welcome. Submissions will close on February 1, 2019.

Last year’s winning institutional project was this engineering school by ZAS Architects + Interiors. Photography courtesy of Ceramics of Italy.

Winning entries of the 2019 Tile Competition will be announced in March and again, officially, at the Ceramics of Italy International Press Conference at Coverings, held this year in Orlando, FL from April 9-12, 2019. Grand-prize winners are eligible for a cash prize of $3,000, an all-expenses paid trip to Coverings to present their project, and a 5-day, CEU-accredited trip to Bologna, Italy to attend Cersaie – the world’s largest exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings – with a delegation of top design media. Student winners are also invited to Coverings, where they will present their renderings, floor plans, or sketches to the 26,000 attendees at the annual stone and tile tradeshow. An additional $1,000 will be awarded to the contractor/distributor team involved in each winning project.
