Live La Dolce Vita at Patricia Urquiola’s Shoppable Sereno Lago di Como Suite
The return of luxury travelers to Italy is dependent on the services that keep them coming back. With that in mind, Il Sereno Lago di Como offers Europe’s first shoppable penthouse suite—and it’s filled with custom designs from Interior Design Hall of Fame member Patricia Urquiola part of the unveiling of La Pliniana—a stunning 16th century Italian Palazzo set on 18 waterfront acres on Lake Como featuring 18 bedrooms, a private boat dock, helicopter landing pad, spa, and vast gardens.
Respecting its natural and historical surroundings, Il Sereno Lago di Como joins a select group of illustrious lake hotels. Building on the success of Le Sereno St Barth’s, the owners joined forces with Milan-based Urquiola to introduce a contemporary and more relaxed interpretation of luxury design to Lake Como.

Tasked with improving the Penthouses at il Sereno, Patricia Urquiola followed her inspiration of ”Italian 50’s and Como Silks,” managing director Samy Ghachem says, with emphasis on the important designers that marked the era.
Walls of verde-alpi (green marble from the Aosta valley, Northwest from Lake Como and bordering Switzerland), noce canaletto walnut ceilings join pavement made with ceppo di gres (Sereno’s native stone) in geometric patterns inside terrazzo inspired by Carlo Scarpa’s Olivetti boutique in Venice. Urquiola designed new foulards made in Como’s silk works with patterns inspired by the Lake, and Jacquard fabrics in similar patterns used for wall coverings, and also for cushions. Franco Albini’s Infinito bookcase is populated with acquired old and new ceramic objects chosen by Patricia Urquiola, including works by Gio Ponti, Vico Magistretti, Aldo Londi, and Charlotte Perriand, Urquiola’s own custom furniture she designed for the space includes a Murano-made Tessuti Battuti vase and Essagono set of jars and glasses.
