Perkins and Will Maxes Out Cisneros Group’s Miami Headquarters
One of the largest privately held media, entertainment, telecommunications and consumer products organizations in the world, 90-year-old Cisneros Group was looking to re-imagine its Miami headquarters as a flexible, wellness-centric space combining biophilic design and its world-class art collection, all while adhering to the highest level of sustainability and post-pandemic standards. It turned to Perkins and Will Miami’s interior design director Elina Cardet to channel the company’s modern Venezuelan architectural heritage into the 24,500-square-foot integrated creative studio.
Cardet and the design team strategically planned each space to be consistent with a larger theme of connecting people to natural experiences by humanizing the space with art, light, and wellness. Their focal point was to organize workspaces around the Cisneros Group’s private art collection, treating the office interiors as art galleries to showcase a rotation of works from five different areas of Latin American material culture, including indigenous and contemporary art.
Another focus was to maintain a 20/80 open plan, with select private areas to provide a calm refuge for working, thinking, or creating. Seven unique “horizon” rooms were designed for phone use, quiet work, and wellness or meditation to take the user through integral moments from day to night, enabling them to match a mood and experience to the space. These rooms offer an artful, abstract, and experiential immersion with a two-tone play of color and light, providing a calm refuge to think, write, and create. Innovative lighting solutions include “light ledges” created for private offices and meeting rooms.
Well-being is further highlighted throughout with uninterrupted 360-degree city views to maximize daylight, balance circadian rhythms, and add an emotional quality to the space. Layering in a biophilic narrative, abstract references bring to mind the uniquely dramatic Miami sky and water as it changes from dawn to dusk. Throughout the project, light is conceived as a material, adding an emotional quality to the space.
