Brown Jordan and SCAD Team Up On New Outdoor Furniture Collection
At ICFF 2019, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and Brown Jordan revealed to attendees an exquisite collection of new, student-made outdoor furniture. The pieces were developed by 16 students over a 10-week period with Brown Jordan’s Chief Brand Curator, Stephen F. Elton, acting as a mentor. He was joined by acclaimed designer Richard Frinier, Margaret Russell, SCAD’s Honorary Dean of the School of Build Arts, and Dr. Geoffrey S. Taylor, Dean of the School of Building Arts, in critiquing the pieces.
“It’s such an honor to help guide these extremely talented and innovative young minds,” says Elton. “The pieces they created are both masterfully crafted and conceptually original.”
There were several awards given to outstanding student projects. These included: Best Design, Most Innovative, and Best Use of Materials. All of the students were supported by Arbor Wood Co., who generously donated the materials used to produce the furnishings.
“We are thrilled to have had Brown Jordan so intimately involved in every step of the design process,” says Frederic Spector, associate chair of furniture design at SCAD. “The students benefited greatly from Stephen’s advice and expertise.”
