Gary Wheeler to Join HDR as Global Director of Interior Design and Workplace Strategy
Renowned designer Gary Wheeler will relocate from his London base to join HDR as the global director of interior design and workplace strategy in New York.
Wheeler, who was inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame in 2000, co-founded the firm Wheelerkänik with Grant Kanik in 2009. He has previously held management positions at Perkins & Will and Gensler. Wheeler has worked on the design of top corporate offices, including JP Morgan’s European headquarters and environments for Apple, Time Warner, American Express, and Edelman PR. His portfolio also includes retail, residential, and educational spaces around the world.
Wheeler will bring his extensive experience to HDR in a position that will work closely with the firm’s architecture, engineering, and innovation teams. “[I’m excited for] the opportunity to build a world-class practice on equal footing with both architecture and engineering,” Wheeler says. His expertise in crafting workplace environments that aid productivity and well-being will be called upon in the multifaceted role, for which he will work with HDR’s varied portfolio of healthcare, education, corporate, and civic clients.
Wheeler is also a recipient of the IIDA Lifetime Achievement Award and a past president of the American Society of Interior Designers.
