Inside Interior Design’s 11th Annual HiP Awards Ceremony
HiP, HiP, Hooray! The cheerful sentiment behind these words colored the air at Interior Design‘s 11th annual HiP Awards ceremony, honoring top products and people in the commercial design industry, which took place at THE MART June 9. Hosted by editor-in-chief Cindy Allen, nearly 400 designers, manufacturers, and creatives—including First NeoCon attendees—filled the steps at Marshall’s Landing to catch a glimpse of the evening’s winners.
“Here we go!” Allen said kicking off the ceremony to the sound of applause. First up: Product winners. From Heller‘s gently curved Fortune Chair, which won a HiP Award for Outdoor Seating, to Mayer Fabrics‘s award-winning and environmentally conscious Seaqual Initiative Collection, which won for Health and Wellness Fabric, the 2024 HiP Awards spotlighted the industry’s vast range of creativity and innovation.
The evening’s positive vibes kept pace with the uplifting beats of the accompanying music set, creating a festive atmosphere. “I love the positivity,” said Amy Rockwell of Okamura. “Knowing that we’re competing against top manufacturers and seeing their work is so amazing.” For seasoned attendees and newcomers alike, the HiP Awards offered countless opportunities to connect and walk away with fresh inspiration. “This is the first time I’ve been to the HiP Awards and the energy is amazing,” said Alexa Chmura of Valerio Dewalt Train, who was celebrating firm principal Matthew Gamache’s accolade as HiP Designer for Social Impact.
Speaking of HiP People, which honors leaders in the industry, this year 18 design luminaries took home HiP Awards in their respective categories out of nearly 80 entrants. From Rising Stars to Leaders in various areas such as Workplace and Sustainability as well as Furniture and Fabric, Allen offered insights into each HiP Award winner’s unique design journey during the ceremony—met with a resounding round of applause. “To me, this is such a pivotal point in my career,” said newly crowned HiP Fabric and Wallcovering Leader Jennifer Nye of Momentum Textiles and Wallcovering. “Winning this award means so much to me; it’s life changing,” shared Mary Jo Miller of HBF Textiles, who took home an award for Designer Lifetime of HiPness. “Cindy is such an icon and to be recognized by her a true gift,” she added.
The excitement was palpable throughout the evening as winners and honorees enjoyed cocktails following the ceremony, marking yet another successful celebration of groundbreaking design—and start to NeoCon.
