Interior Design’s re:Source Event Spotlights Design Innovation
Interior Design‘s much anticipated re:Source event returned to Arizona in late April, sparking design conversations that continue to resonate long after. Nearly 100 designers and manufacturers gathered at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia for the four-day event to talk design, connect with colleagues, and experience a bit of adventure in the desert landscape, from a hike up Camelback Mountain to a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home, Taliesin West.
After an opening night reception under the stars, festivities the next day kicked off with a talk on digital acceleration and its impact on design by ThinkLab head of research and content development, Erica Waayenberg. Referencing a stat from McKinsey & Company, Waayenberg relayed that in 2020, 4-10 years of digital acceleration took place in just seven months, which changed the way people work and communicate. In the design industry, this means that tasks associated with product discovery, selection, and specification increasingly have a digital component, she added noting ThinkLab data. Waayenberg then touched on how firms are reframing their design processes and client interactions in a hybrid world, from human interaction (think: culture and workflow to how reps present), to business drivers and sustainability goals, sparking a lively discussion.
But the conversation didn’t stop there. Throughout the event, designers and manufacturers connected to discuss the latest products, materials, and innovations, building new relationships—and design ideas—along the way. Up next, Interior Design will host a re:Source event in Vermont this fall.
