Monkey Forest Road Leads to Coffee
Named after the main street in the cultural center of Bali, Indonesia, Monkey Forest Road is a multipurpose space split between a store, gallery and café.
Owners Chris Cooper and Arnel Alcordo were inspired by Balinese arts and crafts and they longed to share this passion with their native Oakland, California community. Finding an abandoned space on Grand Avenue, they hired Larson Shores Architects to refurbish the space with reclaimed wood siding and shutters, additional skylights, and an interior courtyard garden.
Filled with artwork and the smell of coffee, it’s hard to believe that this place was a drapery store not too long ago.
