Products, Studios, and Designers This Week on DesignTV by SANDOW

This week on DesignTV by SANDOW, programming included a little bit of everything. From Interior Design Editor in Chief Cindy Allen palling around with industry peers, to two of our editors discussing some of their favorite products from our most recent issue, plus an exclusive studio tour.

The third installation of NKBA Live on DesignTV premiered this week with the return of NKBA‘s Suzie Williford and introducing, Steve Feldman, CEO and founder of Renovation Angel, Dan Nolan, National Trade Manager for Miele, and Peter Salerno, founder of Peter Salerno Inc. The group shared their thoughts on how designers can reduce waste and recycle luxury kitchens with Renovation Angel’s 15th annual program coming up. Billions of dollars are spent per annum working on kitchen renovations and with that comes a lot of waste; since 2005, Renovation Angel has diverted over 40 million pounds of kitchens from landfills. “This program demonstrates how our industry can participate in sustainable business practices that benefit all of us,” Williford notes.

Up next, Hall-of-Famer Lidewij Edelkoort, whom Allen lovingly refers to simply as Li, is a Dutch designer and trend-guru, whose early life as a fashionista has led her to have a successful career as an imaginative and socially-aware designer. With collections that are full of both appealing visuals and cultural meaning, Li and her industry peers expand on her creative process in this Design Giants segment.

To finish up the day’s programming, Interior Design‘s Helene Oberman, managing director, and Rebecca Thienes, market director, teamed up to share their insights on some LAUNCH products for this installation of Product Live. Products mentioned include Davis Furniture’s minimalist and sleek A-Frame collection and Wolf-Gordon’s RAMPART wall coverings, optimized for health and wellness spaces, to name a few.

Mid-week, viewers were treated to an exclusive tour of the Pelle’s New York City studio hosted by the lighting and furniture brand’s founders, designers Oliver and Jean Pelle. The fluid space makes it easy for the Pelle team to be hands-on in all areas of their work, which is important as their made-to-order products are assembled in the same place that they are designed.

Then Oberman returned to host Product Live with Amanda Hopkins and Shannon Cochran from Patcraft, a flooring products and solutions-focused brand. Patcraft’s new line of patterned carpets are designed with a “sophisticated subtlety,” as Oberman says.

To close out the week, Oberman spoke with Ryan Smith, founder of the Seattle-based lighting brand LightArt. Smith, a trained architect, explains how he built a company that creates unique yet functional lighting fixtures with a focus on local producers and craftsmen. Plus, he shares insights into the brand’s new Coil collection, made from reconstituted waste.
