SANDOW Companies Acquires Global Design Platform ARCHITONIC

On the heels of the recent acquisition of Canadian design magazine Azure, SANDOW Companies announces yet another major growth initiative. Joining SANDOW’s stable of design media and resources is ARCHITONIC, a global platform for design professionals, acquired from DAAily Platforms, the parent company of ArchDaily and designboom.

For ARCHITONIC—home to an expansive community of architects, planners, and interior designers—the move provides a foundation for accelerated growth, enabling the brand to advance its premium offering and expand its reach of innovative tools and solutions. At the same time, the acquisition opens doors for collaboration across SANDOW’s platforms, including its vast sampling marketplace, Material Bank.

“ARCHITONIC is one of the most respected global platforms in architecture and design, with an extraordinary community and a deeply trusted brand,” said Adam I. Sandow, founder and CEO of SANDOW Companies. “Bringing ARCHITONIC into the SANDOW ecosystem is a natural and strategic step as we continue to build connected platforms that support the design industry across the world. We are excited to invest in ARCHITONIC’s future, expand its reach, and elevate its experience for the global design community.”

The move also enables DAAily platforms to reinvigorate its focus on its editorial platforms: ArchDaily and designboom, notes Martin Zelger, CEO of DAAily Platforms.

To facilitate the transition and lead growth initiatives, Patrick Loechle, former chief sales, marketing and product officer, has been appointed CEO of ARCHITONIC. “This move positions ARCHITONIC to move forward with confidence and momentum,” said Loechle. “Under SANDOW, we have ownership that truly understands our industry and shares our belief that the future of premium is not about more, but about better–better curation, better relationships, and better outcomes for architects, designers, and brands. Together, we will continue to build a platform that stands for relevance, responsibility, and trust.”

ARCHITONIC’s long-standing editor-in-chief Simon Keane-Cowell will remain in his current role. Keane-Cowell commented: “By joining SANDOW Companies and its prestigious stable of design media titles and platforms, ARCHITONIC is in the very best of company. This acquisition not only underpins our commitment to curatorial and editorial excellence–both online and offline–it also provides, via fresh innovation and collaboration, new and rich seams of opportunity for even greater levels of memorable A&D storytelling.”
