Vij5 Teams with Studio Mieke Meijer for NewspaperWood

To prove there’s an afterlife for the daily news, beyond the bottom of the birdcage,

Vij5

teamed up with Studio Mieke Meijer. The result is NewspaperWood, made from stacks of bonded newspapers that are cut into panels and sealed with water-based lacquer, so the cross sections resemble, well, wood. This eminently green material then became part of the manufacturer’s Framed cabinets by Breg Hanssen. Their steel frames are painted to coordinate with the color of the originating newspaper: salmon from the Financial Times, yellow from ItaliaOggi, pink from the Gazetta dello Sport, and green from Asharq Al-Awsat. Choose from six configurations, ranging from a single-door model to a four-door version.
