Caesarstone’s Latest Collection of Dark Surfaces Captures Mystery of Night Sky

As the year comes to a close, designers—and clients—are embracing darker hues as a contrast to the ever popular all-white interiors that came to define kitchens and baths in the past decade. And the shift is far from subtle. Designers are using darker tones to anchor a room, especially in contemporary, minimalist interiors, rather than incorporating them solely as accent colors. But with cleanliness top of mind, it’s often challenging to specify richly-colored surfaces that meld form and function. Caesarstone, a leading manufacturer of surfacing solutions, works tirelessly to change that by creating surfaces that are equally hygienic regardless of hue.

The company recently released three new, luxurious hues for its mood-inspired Dark Collection, enabling designers to choose from a wide array of highly durable and cleanable surfaces that emulate the detail and texture found in natural stone. Shades include, Empira Black, which has a rich black base and fine white veins; Black Tempal, which features soft mineral deposits that contrast with its charcoal base; and Oxidian, which has a dark gray metal base with an oxidized russet effect, capturing the raw beauty of real rust.

“We’ve been working on our dark collection for several years,” says Mor Krisher, head product designer at Caesarstone. “We decided to go outdoors and take a journey to the desert to observe nature and explore the organic materials there.” In order to understand how stone holds color at night, the design team studied their surroundings under the stars, drawing inspiration for Caesarstone’s Dark Collection of non-porous surfaces, which can also be used to create composite sinks in the same color for a streamlined aesthetic.

“Dark colors can be dramatic, bold, and mysterious or warm and comforting. Our senses are heightened in the dark and with darkness comes a world of calm and comfort… dark tones are an entirely rich world of inspiration,” Krisher added. Each of the new shades in the collection is available in a textured, natural finish, enhancing the depth of color and enabling designers to add luxury and warmth to high-use interiors.
