Elyse Graham’s Matrix Lighting Collection Illuminates Geometry

After studying semiotics and sculpture at Brown University in the early aughts, Elyse Graham operated a jewelry line for the next decade and then launched her namesake design studio in 2014 (right around the time she first graced the pages of Interior Design). The Oregon-based, Los Angeles native’s latest lighting collection, Matrix, includes a table lamp, ceiling flush-mount, and sconce, all featuring fields of hand-arranged cubes in cast epoxy resin that traverse a subtle gradient of hues and opacities. “The inspiration for the square form came from the molds we use for casting material samples,” Graham explains. Drawing from California’s Light and Space movement, her pixel-effect fixtures look like geometric sculptures unlit; flick the switch and the translucent surfaces emit an ambient glow. The studio plans to debut more colorways, plus a pendant and floor lamp, by spring. Groovy! elysegraham.com
