A Downtown HQ By Gensler Channels The Spirit Of A Social Club
2025 Best of Year Winner for Commercial Café/Cafeteria
A corporate merger gave rise to a new financial service firm headquarters by Gensler spanning eight floors of a downtown tower adjacent to Post Office Square. Overall, the concept eschewed traditional office environments in favor of a hospitality-forward, “third space”–style solution with the energy of a social club. That idea is perhaps best exemplified by the 19th-floor cafeteria, encompassing 10,000 square feet with a full-service café, a showcase kitchen, and an adjoining 7,000-square-foot terrace—one of Boston’s largest private green spaces. True to the hybrid work-social theme, the amenity, accommodating 150 inside and 100 alfresco, offers a broad range of seating options: banquettes and booths, high tops, lounge chairs, barstools, and a long communal table. Overhead is a wow factor: A sculptural installation of gold-toned wire mesh zigzags down the center of the room, past the coffee bar and niches lined with handmade wallcovering, its organic pattern meant to bring in the park views.
