HAO Design Creates a Cohesive Taiwan Apartment to Suit a Family’s Needs
Designing this 1,830-square-foot flat in the city of Kaohsiung, south of Taiwan, required combining the lifestyles and tastes of three people: a husband and wife, and their son. The husband was interested in highlighting the rugged quality of concrete; the wife wanted some space to make handicrafts, especially patchwork (a hobby that is reflected through some design elements); and their teenage son needed a large table to study.
All of these requests were part of the initial brief for HAO Design, the Taiwan-based studio that succeeded in creating a contemporary home with pure lines, a few colorful elements, and bespoke pieces. “As the owners like the warmth of wood, we carefully selected local workers to handmake some of the furniture,” says Ivan Chen, founder of HAO Design. Architecturally balanced and aesthetically cozy, this apartment visually reflects the quiet daily life of the family that resides in it.
