Interior Design’s Second Annual “Big Ideas” Issue

If you’re talking about architecture and design, ideas that range in scale from the sizable to the all-out humongous are, in my opinion, always worth studying and reporting. Which is precisely what we’ve done here, corralling an impressive number of them into our second annual Big Ideas issue. So as not to overwhelm you, we’ve divided everything into eight themed chapters that are easy to use, eminently digestible. (Just don’t call them “small.”) They all break down further into projects that exemplify innovative ways of working, living, eating, and creating art.

One chapter is specifically called “Community Spirit,” but what rose to the top over and over, in every chapter, was the lead role community spirit played in shaping projects of all descriptions. It’s striking how close a relationship design has with our sense of togetherness, making clear how much we need one another—and one another’s Big Ideas—to create our shared future.
