Eclectics need look no further for inspiration than Room Mate Emir, the Istanbul retreat designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán that is the ultimate mix of East and West and old and new.

According to the designers, Emir is “the ultimate fusion of different existing buildings from the old Istanbul, each one with its own personality and peculiarity.” With many of these structures already housing cultural treasures—frescoed ceilings, for example—the pressure was on the design team to create a fresh, luxurious environment while still showcasing the relics of the original.
