Lawson-Fenning Enlivens a Sunlit Los Feliz Home with Modern Charm

The hillside neighborhood of Los Feliz is no stranger to modern design. Home to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House and a stone’s throw from Griffith Observatory, the neighborhood is much opposed to the over-the-top glamour of Hollywood Hills. It’s also where Los Angeles-based company Lawson-Fenning crafted the interiors of a sun-filled family home.

“Just as the surrounding neighborhood of Los Feliz reminds us of iconic Los Angeles architecture and design, Chislehurst stands as a classic,” Lawson-Fenning partners Glenn Lawson and Grant Fenning noted. “We wanted to create a home that would function for a family while evoking a sense of elegance and timelessness.”

Throughout the 3,320 square feet, touches of orange compliment an overall earthy palette. But the wallcoverings stand out the most—from Clarence House’s fruity greyscale print in the dining room to a black-on-vermillion pattern in one of the bedrooms.

Another standout is the airy, mostly white kitchen, which leads out to the deck. Marble tops the custom cabinets and an island that functions as a bar. A bay window provides bench seating for the kitchen table.

One of the bedrooms features the Chiselhurst bed by Lawson-Fenning, named for the street.

In addition to the four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, the residence also has an outdoor pool, an office, and a fitness studio with padded flooring and mirrored walls. But no feature of the house can compete with the stunning view of Vermont Canyon and the Los Angeles basin beyond.
