Marmol Radziner’s Canyon Collection for McGuire Channels California Cool
Few firms are more closely identified with their geographical context than Marmol Radziner, the standard bearer of California modernism for nearly 30 years. So, when Interior Design Hall of Fame members Leo Marmol and Ron Radziner joined forces with McGuire, it was inevitable the furniture that followed would bear the stamp of their state. The Canyon collection evokes the rugged terrain found in the verdant valleys of Los Angeles, a cool-casual respite from city living. “Our goal was to highlight the inherent beauty and softness of natural materials by using them in elemental, modern furniture forms,” Radziner explains. The 24 pieces are assembled into subsets like Kanan, which spotlights the manufacturer’s signature rattan in the wraparound back of the lounge chair and settee. The Nichols series features refined white-bronze detailing, in both the modular wall unit with stretched rawhide panels and the upholstered bed— McGuire’s first—with headboard wrapped in Danish cord. Soft, futuristic edges shape Moon, as the sectional’s low-profile upholstery appears to float over the fumed oak base. The same species mingles with white bronze in Benedict, including a cocktail table with robust top and curvaceous base.
