Molteni&C|Dada Opens Villa-Inspired Los Angeles Flagship
Interior Design has visited zillions of showrooms, but rare among them is a space we’d actually like to move into. Count the newly launched Molteni&C|Dada flagship in partnership with the ddc Group as one of them. Located in the heart of Los Angeles’s West Hollywood design district and designed by Belgian architect Vincent van Duysen, who is also the firm’s creative director, the space sprawls over 7,600 square feet on two floors.
More than a product exhibition space, it was conceived as a home—complete with a massive entry door, marble fireplace, stunning salotto, and enviable kitchen that would make any of us want to cook in rather than eat out. The space also features a glassed-in garden and bedroom with walk-in closets. Pass through a central courtyard and proceed upstairs to a private lounge and striking Slide Armani/Dada kitchen. Throughout, materials are a mix of marble and oak; a suspended wooden ceiling adds warmth.
As in any fine home, spaces are furnished with a mix of the super-contemporary pieces for which Molteni is known—collections by Patricia Urquiola, Rodolfo Dordoni, Foster + Partners, and Jean Nouvel among them—and classic works such as those by the inimitable Gio Ponti. Showing us through the space, Giulia Molteni commented that van Duysen wanted to create interiors that would be found in an Italian villa, such as the Villa Necchi Campiglio. To which we add, ben fatto.
