Prospero Rasulo Rethinks Traditional Washbasins for Valdama

Prospero Rasulo recasts traditional ornament via the sharp contours of the Cameo washbasin, the Milan-based designer’s latest for Valdama. The title references relief-carved profiles—think oval brooches. But think again: It’s the rectangle that rules this room. An extended perimeter provides space for the type of bathroom necessities best kept at arm’s reach. Rounded edges soften the squared-off central waste opening, while overflow outlets are completely concealed. Both the wall-hung and counter-mount versions are produced in fine fireclay, which can be fired at a higher temperature than vitreous china, thereby making possible larger or more complicated forms. Choose from eight sizes, in white or black with glossy or matte finish, and consider the coordinating toilet and bidet.
