West Chin Unveils New Showroom in Manhattan Modeled as a Duplex Apartment

When it came to designing a new Manhattan showroom, West Chin, principal architect at his namesake firm, wanted to create a space that enabled visitors to feel at home. Like his showrooms in East Hampton, New York (modeled after a beach house) and Westport, Connecticut (modeled after a cottage), West | Out East on Fifth Avenue, located just steps from its previous locale in the Flatiron neighborhood, reflects the ethos of its surroundings. “We wanted to be a little bit more of a destination, and show more of how we think clients want to live with the products we sell,” Chin told Interior Design. “There are not many multi-line showrooms left—we don’t compartmentalize each brand, we integrate them since most people don’t live in a mono-brand room.”

The space, referred to as the Duplex, underwent a full renovation, keeping original details in tact, such as the crown molding, columns, and expansive windows. And designers will find plenty of flexible furnishings and systems throughout, ideal for transforming the home into a multi-use oasis. Organized into living zones, West | Out East in Manhattan features a curated collection of products to outfit every room, from floor to ceiling, with brands such as Living Divani, Porro, Sollos, Flos, Davide Groppi, and Kasthall, to name a few. “I’m excited to share the space,” said Chin. “You can’t really get a feel for it until you walk in.”

The West | Out East showroom on Fifth Avenue currently is open Monday through Friday, from 9am-6pm.
