13 Showstoppers in Seating
You may have spotted a few of these at NeoCon over the summer. If not, never, we’ve rounded up some of the industry’s best new launches in commercial seating: chairs, stools, sofas and more.
1. Hall of Fame member Patricia Urquiola not only spearheaded a renovation of Haworth ‘s showroom at the Merchandise Mart, but also came armed with new products, such as Poppy. A residentially inspired conference chair, it offers a super-flexible back and numerous base options.
2. A palette of earth tones symbolizes the eco-consciousness of Jasper Morrison’s Alfi chair for Emeco , featuring a seat in polypropylene mixed with wood fiber.
3. Like stones skipping across a stream, the Colours seating system by Noé Duchaufour Lawrance for Bernhardt Design follows a curved path with modules either connected or freestanding.
4. Derived from Greek mythology, the wide, winglike armrests of Koray Malhan’s Ikaros sofa for Koleksiyon can double as work surfaces.
5. Joey Ruiter’s Sylvi settees for Izzy+ are equipped with power and data ports and connect, via under-cushion channels, to tables and accessories.
6. While the back and seat work to support the body, Konstantin Grcic’s Allstar chair for Vitra has a wraparound polyamide frame that plays with a range of lively colors.
7. Allermuir ‘s Vee, inspired by first-class airline seating, has upholstered privacy panels, absorbing sound and lending a sense of enclosure, while integrated power ports, optional tables, under-seat storage, and an ottoman add up to an office within the office.
8. When togetherness is essential, there’s Allermuir ‘s Henge . The modules, adapted from the classic club chair, support nearly endless configurations. Choose a single fabric or leather, or go bold with contrast.
9. Available as a chair, a sofa, or a corner unit, Andreu World ‘s Raglan sorts a tightly fitted upholstered body on an injection-molded aluminum frame that can be powder-coated black or white or simply polished.
10. A counter-height stool with a stainless-steel swivel base, Andreu World ‘s Flex can be specified with an upholstered seat or a thermo-polymer shell.
11. Andreu World ‘s Couve, offered as a sofa, love seat, or lounge chair, has a gently rounded silhouette supported by solid beech legs.
12. What appeared to be a 250-foot-long snake in the lobby of the Merchandise Mart was actually 125 contiguous units of the Chadwick Modular. Designed for Herman Miller by Chadwick Studio in 1974, the system was discontinued in 2003. It’s now back by popular demand—with a higher seat and optional power to boot.
13. Martin Bergmann, Harald Gründl, and Gernot Bohmann, the dynamic trio behind Eoos , have helped redefine the office. Their latest invention for Keilhauer , Wheels is just what you’d expect from its name: completely mobile chairs, stools, and tables on steel frames outfitted with casters, either locking or not.
