5 Product Highlights From Light + Building 2018

In the world of light, Frankfurt am Main was the place to be this month. From March 18 through 23, Light + Building 2018 proved once again to be an industry heavyweight, offering the latest products, solutions, and trends in lighting and building-services technology to some 220,000 visitors. From slim and elegant suspended systems to a decorative wall lamp inspired by soap bubbles, here are five of our favorite products from this major fair, held every two years in Germany’s financial capital.

1. Gio by Artemide

Gio.

Available alone or as a cluster in multiple colors, the injected aluminum Gio light by Patrick Norguet for the Italian manufacturer allows custom suspension. “Either plain or in its different versions, Gio is an elegant and efficient object in space,” says the designer.

2. Diversion by Flos

Diversion.

A new product by Piero Lissoni for the Italian company, Diversion is a suspended lighting structure formed from strip light modules. Offered in three sizes, the modules seamlessly fasten together via hinged double- or triple-junctions—meaning the system can grow or shrink on a whim.

3. North light by Vibia

North.

Available in four hues of lacquered-matte steel, the North light by Arik Levy for the Spanish brand is fixed to the wall—yet its lighting element is suspended in space.

4. Streak by XAL

Streak.

Joining the Move It 25 light system, light insert Streak from the Austrian design outfit creates a theatrical effect by sending its illumination in a set path, artfully highlighting walls or ceilings. Its strong magnetic back means it can also be mounted into the system—without tools—on both of these surfaces. With XAL’s ZigBee 3.0. system, it can be controlled wirelessly from an Apple device.

5. Bulbullia by Luceplan

Bulbullia.

Channeling soap bubbles, Francisco Gomez Paz conceived high-tech wall lamp Bulbullia, an experimentation in conical forms for the Italian manufacturer.
