A New Dimension: Iris van Herpen for Materialise
Materialise is the go-to source for rapid-prototyping systems. But through its .MGX division, the Belgian manufacturer offers more permanent applications for its 3-D digital printing, attracting such talents as ?Interior Design Hall of Fame member Patrick Jouin to fabricate user-ready furniture and accessories.
One of Materialise’s more surprising clients is young fashion designer Iris van Herpen, who interned with Claudy Jongstra before launching a signature label. Today, Lady Gaga and Björk are among van Herpen’s clients. Since 2010, 3-D printing has been the backbone of her fantastical creations. Her fall-winter 2013 collection, presented in Paris, inaugurated Materialise’s brand-new TPU 92A-1, ?a textilelike substrate made from ?laser-sintered powder.
