Amanda Levete’s 8mm Chair for Moroso Casts Playful Shadows

8mm by Amanda Levete for Moroso.

As slim as it is sleek, Moroso‘s 8mm chair is laser cut from a single sheet of you-can-guess-how-thick aluminum, which is then folded around a form in a continuous motion. In addition to forging a dynamic graphic pattern, the cuts also reduce the piece’s weight. (Plus, the openings cast playful shadows.) A slight spring where back meets seats boosts the comfort level. Amanda Levete of AL_A designed the chair for the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Exhibition Road Quarter project in London; the angled slices match patterns in the plaza’s floor tiles. Available in all metal to withstand the elements and an indoors-only edition with red leather bonded to the aluminum.
