Behind the Scenes With #IDHallofFame Inductees Lake|Flato

At Interior Design, the arrival of fall means we’re on the road again—capturing the amazing accomplishments of each year’s #IDHallofFame inductees. For the Hall of Fame’s 30th anniversary this year, Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen began the trip in San Antonio, Texas, at the headquarters of Lake|Flato, the firm of 2014 inductees David Lake and Ted Flato. See our slideshow of behind the scenes moments, including stops at the firm’s own office and projects in Austin, Texas. More on Lake and Flato:

David Lake and Ted Flato have, since the founding of their San Antonio-based firm 30 years ago, earned national recognition for a coherent, place-based approach to designing environmentally responsible and artfully crafted buildings that successfully merge with the landscape. By employing sustainable strategies to a wide variety of project types and scales, the firm designs architecture that conserves energy and natural resources while creating high performance buildings and healthy built environments. Their work has received wide critical acclaim, most notably more than 150 international, national and state awards, including the American Institute of Architects prestigious Firm of the Year Award. As architects, teachers, community advocates and environmental stewards, David and Ted strive to elevate the public’s appreciation of architecture and foster the education of the next generation of designers.
