Bring the Mediterranean Home with Andreu World’s Outdoor Collection
Travel is a constant source of inspiration for designers and artists alike, from recreating emblems to using distinct hues to bring a little far-away into the familiarity of home. After all, a carefully crafted room holds the power to transport– even if it’s bringing the outside in. But capturing the essence of beloved locations, such as the Mediterranean coast with its homes made of stone and bright blue beach skies, poses a unique design challenge, especially working across a climate divide. With sustainability in mind, one company is making it easy for designers to bring to life ideas found without having to compromise on environmentally friendly and durable materials.
Artistic concepts and sustainable practices come together harmoniously in Andreu World’s Outdoor collection of chairs and tables. The collection, inspired by nature, has a contemporary feel with designs that are comfortable yet sleek. And with the Mediterranean on the mind, the palette and functionality of the pieces make the ideal of the idyll life possible.
The concept of al fresco living is no longer limited to just the country or the beach. Whether it’s indoors or out, for a residential project or a public space, every piece from the Outdoor Collection is designed for any space. The steel used throughout the collection, for example, is treated with EPL-5, a finishing that leaves the steel totally resistant to impact, UV light, deformation, and chemical damage. Providing a 100% yield in materials and low emissions, the process is environmentally friendly. The solid white or black steels compliments earth tones of the textured Nuez chairs and warm hues of the teak tables.
Using FSC® certification 100% sustainable teak, the Sand and Wind tables respect the organic design of the wood– Andreu World oversees the chain of custody from the reforested forests where the material is sourced. With its modern design and warmness from the teak’s naturally aged look, the tables combine the nature of the exterior with the comfort of the interior. The table is part of a collection that seeks to occupy the literal space between indoor and out, reminiscent of terraces that are extensions of the home, restaurants, and hotels, rather than a separate part all together, in coastal Mediterranean towns.
In a sun-warmed, neutral palette that darkens from sand to terra-cotta, the Nuez chair’s design is as much about texture as it is sustainability. Particia Urquiola started the design of with just a piece of paper and it eventually became a dynamic chair with a flexible surfaces that embraces sitting. The 3D waves that form the shell are made from a 100% recycled thermopolymer that is completely biodegradable. But the seating options don’t stop there. Go for the Ronda chair to get into the healthy habit of siestas, its soft shape makes it a comfortable place to sit in the sun. For the true loungers and sun-tanners, the Aire Outdoor chair transforms from an arm chair to a chaise. And the Costa chair – with or without arm rests – is a stackable outdoor chair made with same environmentally friendly thermopolymer.
“The world has far-reaching problems that designers and companies are trying to tackle” a rep from Andreu World said. “We find quality furniture and objects produced by the willing to change their processes to contribute to a world better built.” Find peace of mind from the Andreu World Outdoor collection with their environmentally friendly processes at every step from design to production whilst transforming any indoor or outdoor space into a getaway with the Mediterranean essence of the pieces.
