Family Business: Bolon and Missoni Home

Considering what to install underfoot in the spa at Edinburgh’s Hotel Missoni, Rosita Missoni discovered Bolon and was instantly smitten, she says, by the “nice textures, sophisticated colors, and a very modern look.” What’s more, Bolon and Missoni Home share not only aesthetics. Both are family-owned, the floor-covering specialist being helmed by sisters Annica and Marie Eklund.

When the three women met in Milan during a Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the connection was practically predestined. Talking soon turned to translating Missoni’s hip-artisanal textiles into vinyl that’s likewise woven. A year later, the Bolon by Missoni collection’s three flamboyant patterns debuted in Milan.

Each is based on a high-energy Missoni fabric pattern. The varying black stripes of Bayadere come accented with orange, pink, or turquoise, while undulations play with the eye in Optical, available in raspberry, pineapple, or turquoise. Jagged-edged Flame is the only one with no bright colors. As always with Bolon, rolls are 79 inches wide and 82 feet long, and the vinyl is both recyclable and FloorScore-certified to meet strict air-quality guidelines for indoor emissions. 800-628-7462; bolon.com. circle 403
