Iconic Hans Wegner Chairs Get a Bold Refresh

Carl Hansen & Søn’s Hans Wegner-designed Shell Chair, Wing Chair, and CH25.

Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn has given two iconic Hans Wegner lounge chairs an eye-catching new touch. The Wing Chair (CH445) and Oculus Chair (CH468), previously only available with a stainless steel frame, now come in a sleek black lacquer that lends the two hallmarks of Danish modernism a younger, bolder expression.

Some of Wegner’s most celebrated creations, each chair seamlessly links tried-and-true ergonomics with modernist aesthetics. Backrests, hidden from plain view, enable a variety of seating positions on the slightly pitched base. Combine the chairs with the Footrest (CH446), also available in black lacquer, for a complete mid-century look.

Originally designed by Wegner in 1960, the Wing and Oculus Chairs were relaunched by Carl Hansen & Søn in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Both reissues will be showcased in the manufacturer’s brand-new flagship showroom in Manhattan’s Flatiron District.
