Jacques Grange and the Olsen Twins Open the Row, New York
The Row, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s fashion boutique, is now a chain. That is, if you consider an historic three-story brick town house in uptown Manhattan, the sequel to a mid-century Los Angeles building with a courtyard and pool, the stuff of chain stores. Like its West Coast sister, the New York store is a series of salons exquisitely curated with a mélange of the brand’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections, of course, as well as artwork and furniture by the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francis Jourdain, and George Nakashima, all available for sale. There are also custom furnishings and displays by Jacques Grange, who collaborated on the project with the design-savvy twins. The slightly Asian aesthetic permeating the 4,000-square-foot interior is the trio’s nod to the building’s recent past, when it housed a Japanese tea room.
