Jane Goodall Collaborates With Crate and Barrel

Jane Goodall is a global treasure. And now the animal behavior expert is one with her own line of children’s furniture with Crate and Barrel’s always creative Crate and Kids. Playing her best Mary Poppins while dropping references to the Leakey’s, the 86-year-old English primatologist and anthropologist read her book “Lion Family” over Zoom to a captive audience while promoting her environmentally focused line of wildlife-inspired textiles, toys, and furnishings—a fitting coda to the doctor’s six-decade career of natural world activism.

The collection includes 31 pieces featuring a hand-illustrated cast of some of Goodall’s favorite animals, brought to life in their natural habitats: chimpanzees, cheetahs, giraffes, lions, zebras, ring-tailed lemurs, tropical birds, and undersea creatures. Highlights include a playhouse version of Goodall’s research camp in Gombe National Park in Tanzania where budding scientists can explore imaginary jungles, rainforests, and their own backyards, as well as 100 percent organic bedding, swaddles, and sleeping bags. 

Naturally, the partnership includes a donation to the Jane Goodall Institute, a global conservation organization dedicated to improving the lives of people, animals, and the environment. And Crate and Kids is inviting families to join in by taking a pledge from the preciously named Roots & Shoots, the Jane Goodall Institute’s youth-led global community action program.
