Mass Design Group Joins BURKELMAN in Holiday Giving

This holiday season online design shop BURKELMAN and architecture firm MASS Design Group have joined forces to raise money for the African Wildlife Foundation.

As part of the “You Gift / We Give” fundraising initiative, BURKELMAN will donate 5 percent of net sales from its online store to the AWF to help build schools in Africa. In addition, 100 percent of the net sales of featured items—many of which are one-of-a-kind pieces donated by designers—will be gifted to the AWF’s African Conservation School Project.

The fundraising initiative, which is running through December 31, features items from designers like Bib & Sola, Gail Garcia Dinner-Ware, Siemon & Salazar, Souda, and Workaday Handmade, and include glassware, jewelry, ceramics, and Christmas ornaments.

“We reached out to every designer we work with, and nearly all of them donated something, which is pretty fantastic,” says David Kimelman, co-founder and co-owner of BURKELMAN, who adds that there’s no monetary limit to how much they’ll donate.

Since founding BURKELMAN with his business partner and husband Kevin Burke earlier this year, Kimelman says that it’s part of their business plan to raise money for projects worldwide, especially those related to conservation and sustainability, two areas the men are very passionate about. He says they plan to hold similar fundraisers throughout the coming months. It’s BURKELMAN’s first time teaming up with MASS Design Group.

“Our goal is to help empower communities in economic pursuits, and are committed to raise money to conservation projects in general,” Kimelman says. “We are so excited about the Africa Conservation Schools Project because it uses education as a tool to further conservation efforts in threatened areas.”
