The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City recently announced the names of its new board leaders and trustees. Michele Cohen has been elected chair of the board, Ann Kaplan as secretary, and Joan Hornig and Barbara Waldman as trustees.

In her new role as chair of the board, Cohen says she will be focused on finding a new director for the museum while also expanding MAD’s visibility as a leading museum.

“I’d like to continue supporting what MAD does best: great exhibitions that provide our visitors with contemporary surprises, bringing the unexpected to the public,” she says. “I would like to see our board expanded with more members from the worlds of jewelry, design, and business who share our mission and ensure that our supporters and stakeholders know how much we treasure and appreciate them and all that they do for MAD. Finally, I would like to continue to raise MAD’s visibility, reaffirming our place at the center of NYC.”

Before becoming chair of the board, Cohen served as a museum trustee beginning 2008 and was later elected secretary in 2014 and vice chair in 2015. She also serves as a trustee at Alfred University, in Upstate New York, and the University of Vermont Foundation. She worked in finance for 18 years with Cohen & Steers, a global investment management firm.

Cohen succeeds Lewis Kruger, who has been named chairman emeritus.
