NeoCon: Walls on the Fly
The irony of open offices is they’ve made workers crave, you guessed it, closed space. Ayse Birsel and Bibi Seck of Birsel + Seck keep pace with the pendulum in Overlay, a system of freestanding walls for Herman Miller. The system is so named because it rests lightly on existing floor plans, plus two people can assemble an enclosed room complete with door in just two hours. The partitions are constructed of powder-coated steel, with walnut or birch privacy slats, and can be outfitted with whiteboards, textiles, laminates, glass, or custom materials. Additional possibilities include three-sided workplaces and stand-alone dividers.
