Neri & Hu Find Inspiration on the Streets of Shanghai for its Latest Collaboration with Nanimarquina

Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu find inspiration everywhere, sometimes right under their feet. The Interior Design Hall of Fame members have captured the surfaces of Shanghai streets in Jie, its name corresponding to the Chinese character that denotes the essence of the city: dynamic, energetic, even frenetic. The different motifs appear to be separate strips stitched together, an illusion enhanced by the varying pile heights of the hand-tufted wool. The rug started as a one-off, designed for an installation that Neri & Hu Design and Research Office curated for Germany’s IMM Cologne fair. Nanimarquina is now producing versions in celadon or blue, in two sizes.
