New Show on Georgian Designer Tinatin Kilaberidze in NYC

Interior architect Tinatin Kilaberidze is the subject of an immersive exhibition at Manhattan’s Valerie Goodman Gallery. The installation will showcase the Georgian designer’s latest furnishings, lighting fixtures, and wallpaper patterns.

Kilaberidze credits Tbilisi, Georgia—her hometown—for opening her eyes to the similarities between Eastern and Western design traditions. “Both have a sense of balance, and both use the golden mean,” explains Kilaberidze.

The furnishings on display include an angular console, pentagonal table, and slender wool-upholstered settee. Each is fashioned from unadulterated wood, the designer’s favorite material. Her wall coverings, however, depart from these geometric forms. Kilaberidze creates patterns based on her daughter Nina Line’s foliage-inspired drawings in colorways that reinterpret the hues of the artist’s treasured Japanese kimonos.

“I love all materials and their endless possibilities,” says Kilaberidze. “Finding the right form and shape to keep the integrity of any natural or man-made material is fascinating.”

Tinatin Kilaberidze: Furniture, Lighting, and Wallpaper will be on display at Valerie Goodman Gallery through December 9.
