The Wild West: NYC’s 11th Avenue Gets Gotham West Market and Gotham West

Usually found in the toniest of neighborhoods, the food hall has now arrived in the Midtown area nicknamed Hell’s Kitchen West, as in 11th Avenue and 44th Street. Thanks to the airy, industrial vibe provided by AvroKO for Gotham West Market’s eight artisanal tenants, the 10,000-square-foot space teems with visitors morning, noon, and night. One of the eateries, Genuine Roadside, is also owned and operated by AvroKO (just as the firm does with its restaurants Public and Saxon + Parole in NoLIta). Channeling California-style joints of yesteryear, the pine-paneled space seats 70 in booths or on vintage stools. Lining a wall is 1970’s Americana—cans of beer and defunct soda brands, boom boxes, cassette tapes—all sourced on eBay. What’s on the menu? Burgers, of course.

The market adjoins a complex of 554 rental apartments called Gotham West, featuring myriad amenity spaces—a lounge, game room, gym, and sky terrace among them—designed by SPaN Architecture.
