Summer Olympics’ Oakley Safehouse Lounge Partners with Chilewich

The first commercial installation for Chilewich’s Biofelt – a PVC-free tile-backing system which features 82 percent pre-and-post-consumer content – takes over 2,000 square feet of London’s Design Museum during the 2012 Summer Olympics for the Oakley Safehouse. The “safehouse” is a lounge implemented by Oakley since 1996 in honor of the international event. Biofelt flooring tiles are reusable when installed with VELCRO Brand Hook Squares – which unitizes tiles and floor; adhesives may be used for a permanent installation.

This year, through August 12, the eyewear and apparel brand will host over 600 of their sponsored Olympics athletes, their families and other VIP’s, in a multi-purpose haven which includes: lounges, viewing areas, promotional platforms where athletes customize the brand’s eyewear, and a dedicated section for selected media outlets.

Durdam Rocherolle, Oakley Olympic Consultant, elaborates, “With a largely untrained flooring crew, we were able to install [the whole area] with about 100 cuts in a half a day–it looks permanent.” Chilewich, the exclusive flooring and tabletop partner for Oakley’s Safehouse, provided Biofelt (installed with Velcro’s Hook Squares), custom rugs, placemats, runners, napkins, and more in a range of colors and styles.
