Walking the Walk: Clarks Raises Funds For the Halo Trust
In the midst of World War II, Nathan Clark was deployed to Burma. Since he happened to be the great-grandson of James Clark, cofounder of the British shoe manufacturer C&J Clark International, aka Clarks, it makes sense that, while serving his country, he also surveyed the soldiers’ footwear. After the war was won and he returned to business as usual, he introduced his own version, the Desert Boot. The ankle-height design, with minimal lacing, was originally plain suede.
To celebrate the Desert Boot’s 65th anniversary, Clarks group director and senior vice president Michael Pao hired FTM Advisory to launch Clarks: Rebooted to raise funds for the Halo Trust, which works to deactivate land mines around the world. The 14 participating designers and artists were tasked with creating a limited-edition boot as well as a related artwork to be auctioned in London in October. All profits are being donated to the nonprofit.
