Winner of Interior Design/Mats Inc. Hall of Fame Red Carpet Contest Revealed

It was a tough decision, but after challenging the creative community to come up with an innovative red carpet design for this year’s Hall of Fame and Best of Year awards galas, Interior Design has selected a winner. Salma Teekay of Spector Group submitted the winning design.

Teekay’s pattern will be fabricated by Mats Inc. using its polypropylene Graffiti flooring line and rolled out to welcome guests to the back-to-back annual events: Hall of Fame on December 5 and Best of Year on December 6, both being held in the River Pavilion at the Javits Center in New York City. Teekay will also receive two complimentary tickets to each of the events.

“I always say when you give a designer a challenge, they go 100% plus, which is exactly what happened when we asked for your spin on a red carpet runway,” said editor in chief Cindy Allen. We were absolutely thrilled and overwhelmed by the results of the 130+ entries, proving once again the power of design. Because there were so many fantastic designs, the real challenge was choosing what pattern would work best as a repeat for the 124-foot carpet. In the end, the bolder, more graphic designs won out. Congrats to all and many thanks to Mats Inc!”

Asked to describe her design, Teekay said, “This event brings people together to celebrate all things beautiful. I found that this effortless amalagamation of colors best represented that spirit.” This was also the first foray into carpet design for Teekay, who works on a variety of Spector Group projects, from initial design conception through final buildout. Now she’ll be walking her own winning entry in a few weeks. “I’m beyond excited!” she said.

Interior Design’s editors were so impressed by the creativity of the submissions that we decided to showcase the 22 finalists as well. Check them all out in our Red Carpet Contest Gallery.
