Finn Juhl’s Iconic Seating Gets A Floral Fashion Update

Scandinavian mid-century furniture, meet of-the-moment American fashion. The Danish design house collaborates with clothing label Sea New York on a special edition of Finn Juhl’s 1957 Japan Series, introducing a decorative tactility to his seating. Sofas, a lounge chair, and a footstool are upholstered in an embroidered textile creative directed by Sea cofounder Monica Paolini that pulls inspiration from drawings preserved in Juhl’s archive. The fabric, Flower Embroidery (available in raven, heather, dusty mint, and soft linen colorways), adds rows of petite stitched blooms to a wool-cotton weave produced at Kjellerup Væveri, Denmark’s oldest operating mill. “A few years ago, we had the opportunity to shoot in Juhl’s home in Denmark, and being immersed in his spaces left a lasting impression,” Paolini says. “There’s such a beautiful sense of movement and ease in his work.
